Treasurer's Report There were no receipts this period. Disbursements totaled $3,421.16 The ending balance on May 4, 2016 was $9,926.03.
Approval of Minutes Minutes from the previous meeting on April 6th were announced. Yoli motioned to accept and Norma seconded. Minutes approved.
Events and Save the Dates Carnival The Emerson Carnival will be on May 20th, 5:00 – 8:00 pm. We need volunteers: parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and high school students. The Boogers band will perform. We will have food for sale, including nachos, pizza, fruit and water.
Track and Field Day Track and Field Day at Emerson will be June 1. It is an all-day event and the PTA provides lunch and water. Lunch will include a grilled hot dog and fruit. Please have your student bring a lunch from home if he or she does not like hot dogs. We need volunteers to help serve lunch with the PTA.
Fifth Grade Farewell Emerson’s Fifth Grade Farewell will take place on June 2nd. We are looking for volunteers, usually parents of fourth grade students, to help with this event. We will need help serving breakfast at 9:00 for 55-6 students and their parents. Set-up begins at 8:00 am. The breakfast will be followed by the students taking a trip to the bowling alley to continue the celebration.
Teacher Appreciation Week Teacher Appreciation Week is going well. Thank you to volunteers and food donations for the teacher luau lunch. Locker letters need to be turned in Thursday morning, May 5th. The letters include a sentence about the student’s teacher. We would love some volunteers to help tape the letters to lockers in the morning. Friday, May 6th is the last day of Teacher Appreciation Week and is Gift Day.
Principal's Report: Principal Beatriz Maldonado presented her report. Jump Rope for Heart was kicked off by an assembly on Monday, May 2nd. The American Heart Association raises money to help those in need. Emerson has raised $600 as of May 4th. This year, our goal is to raise $5,500. Students will jump rope on Friday, May 20th.
The District 100 play, “Oliver!” will take place on May 13th and May 14th at Emerson gym. Lots of Emerson students are participating and it is a great production.
MAP testing will be completed during the week of May 9th online. The testing measures growth in students and helps plan for future instruction.
May 11th is Bloom into Kindergarten. Parents and incoming students will meet teachers and learn more about the kindergarten program.
The iEngage conference was April 30-May 1. There were visitors from all over the county and Mexico. April 30th activities featured a workshop about technology and speakers.
